2010 Tramway Quality Handicap Nominations

August 31st, 2010

The nominations are in for this Saturday’s $125,000 Group 3 Tramway Handicap (1400m), due to run at Randwick as part of the Chelmsford Stakes Day.

Twenty-one runners make up the early entries for the 2010 Tramway Handicap, including the top-liners Sniper’s Bullet, Jessicabeel and Cannonball.

Early third favourite to win the 2010 Melbourne Cup, Jessicabeel is likely to start in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes at the same meeting instead, but Tracey Bartley is hoping her seven-year-old gelding Sniper’s Bullet can return to form in the Tramway.

A Group 1 winner that has earned over $2.5 million in career prizemoney, Sniper’s Bullet resumed racing at the start of the month but failed last start when running eighth in the Warwick Stakes.

Former USA galloper Cannonball is running second-up in the Tramway after a sixth place finish in the Missile Stakes (1200m) three weeks back, and is one of three nominations from leading Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse.

Waterhouse has also entered Rabbuka and Herculian Prince, both runners disappointing last start when finishing last and second last in the Show County Quality at Warwick Farm.

Other exciting chances sure to start at the top of the Ladbrokes.com.au markets if they run on Saturday include Bart Cummings’ Empires Choice and the David Payne-trained Centennial Park.

The Tramway Quality is one of three Group races on the race card at Randwick on Saturday, the other highlight events being the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) and the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1400m).

The final field for the Tramway Quality and the other events at the meeting will be released on Thursday and we will be the first to publish the list of acceptances along with the latest betting odds and form guide on the contenders.
