Breaking through for a maiden Group 1 victory when charging home to win the 2014 Australian Oaks (2400m) last time out on April 19th, trainer Donna Logan has revealed talented stayer Rising Romance will return to racing in the Group 2 Tramway Handicap (1400m) at Royal Randwick on September 6th.
A standout performer in her native New Zealand, Rising Romance has contested an impressive total of four wins and three minor places from just ten competitive starts so far; finishing fourth in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) in her only other Australian start prior to the Oaks.
Pleased with the way the Ekraar mare has taken to her time in the paddock, Logan told The New Zealand Racing Desk the major target for Rising Romance this time in will be the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 18th.
“She’ll get in on the minimum and that’s the most suitable race for her this year,” Logan said of the Caulfield Cup.
“We’ll be looking at giving her a trial here at the end of the month and then she’ll run in the Tramway Handicap at Randwick on September 6 and probably the George Main Stakes two weeks later.
“Her regular rider said she can’t believe the strength about her now.”
Unlucky to be blocked for a run and fourth in both of her first two race starts, Rising Romance claimed back-to-back victories through November last year, including the Listed Trevor Eagle Memorial Open (1500m).
Blocked for a run and third in the Group 2 Eight Carat Classic (1600m) on Boxing Day, the mare out of Post Romance won the Group 3 Royal Stakes (2000m) on New Year’s Day and finished a close second to Puccini in both the Group 2 Avondale Guineas (2100m) and Group 1 New Zealand Derby (2400m) prior to crossing the ditch for the Sydney Autumn Carnival.
