Brown to Partner Tiger Tees in 2014 Tramway Handicap

September 3rd, 2014

Having not partnered the talented seven-year-old since finishing fourth in the 2012 edition of the Moir Stakes, jockey Corey Brown has been confirmed to take the vacant ride on Tiger Tees in this weekend’s Group 2 Tramway Handicap (1400m) at Royal Randwick.

Returning to the track in exceptional form this season, Tiger Tees has so-far been partnered by veteran hoops Damien Oliver and Glyn Schofield in his two race starts, however neither are available for varying reasons.

Having also been partnered by the likes of Christian Reith and Nash Rawiller in work, also away, trainer Joe Pride he had underlined Brown as a hopeful replacement following the Dubawi gelding’s impressive win in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) two weeks ago, and is pleased to have confirmed his services for the Tramway Handicap.

“I prompted him to come a week early because we’ve got the need,” Pride told AAP.

“You look at the line up there on Saturday, we’ve got less senior jockeys than what you’d normally see at one of these meetings.

“Nash is away, Chris is away. Tommy (Berry) is down in Melbourne, Glyn is suspended. You take four or five out and it’s a big hole and no-one takes their place.”

Securing an impressive total of 13 race wins and a further five minor places from just 29 starts so far, Tiger Tees has undoubtedly returned to racing in career-best form this year; winning the Listed Falvelon (1200m) in Brisbane first-up, and while appearing to be out of his depth when ninth in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) on March 15th, responded in the best way possible in charging home to win the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) on March 29th.

Having also finished fourth in the Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) and third in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) most notably through autumn, the gelding out of Parfore is undefeated in two starts since returning in spring, taking out the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m) two weeks prior to the Warwick Stakes.
